Line up of Speakers at Rediscovering the Vernacular
Colin Williams is a director of WCK Design and Conservation. Colin will introduce the case for natural materials in an industrialised construction industry exploring the embodied energy and CO2 ofnatural materials, contrasting it with more conventional forms of construction. It will highlight the environmental impact of transportation and question the assumption that free markets and globalised trade always produce the best results.
Janet Jury is an architect practicing in Norfolk. Janet is heavily committed to the promotion of sustainable buildings through location, form and materials rather than simply relying on technology. She has been involved in a number of such projects including the practice’s own offices in Aylsham. Janet will be talking about completed or work-in-progress projects.
Sarah Partridge is the Managing Director of OBee Community Interest Company based at Orchard Barn in East Anglia. Sarah talks about her experiences of starting a social enterprise and her role promoting traditional building skills and using local natural materials.
Natural Building Technologies are specialist suppliers of high performance, sustainable building solutions and materials. NBT will talk about alternative responses to environmental efficiency in sustainable home building by delivering significant energy savings from day one of manufacture to construction.
Kevin Beckwith a Building Inspector working in Suffolk, will demonstrate a positive approach in looking at how Building Regulations can accommodate the use of natural materials in new build.
Martin Brown from Anglia Lime will talk about the resurgence in the use of lime in new build. In his talk he will cover specifications, building regulations and insulation properties of lime mixed with other materials.
