Green Oak Timber Framing courses - using local trees, some hand conversion, hand tools. 2 x 5-day courses April and May 2010 dates now confirmed.
Learn how to make a Shingle-covered roof by hand using local oak
Rebuild an Authentic 17th Century Roof course May, June and July 2010 dates
Students will gain good experience in basic hand conversion and learn how to try and utilise non-straight timbers for framing. We will cover different design options for historic roofs as well as different ways of marking and cutting a roof frame but this course will use a simple lay-up jig as per historic practice. All work will be done with hand tools, most of them antique examples with some rarities! Finally we should be able to raise YOUR bay of roof framing by hand at the end of the week.
