Join us for our new Eco-project

This August and September (2011) we are constructing a cob wall (clay, straw and hoggin) around the perimeter of the farm yard. This will provide us with an outdoor teaching area for traditional building skills and rural crafts courses starting in March 2012.

Want to get involved? Please let Sarah know your availability on 077660-54042 or email sarah@orchardbarn.org.uk

All ages and abilities welcome.

Making cob is great fun and guaranteed to improve fitness!

'Volunteering at Orchard Barn has given me a unique opportunity to learn about traditional building methods, work with like minded people from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities and engage with the management of the site as a whole. I have gained a great deal personally from my involvement and would encourage anyone with an interest in any of the many aspects of the project to get involved.' Tom Castell from Stowmarket joined our volunteer group in February 2010

Orchard Barn is at Ringshall, Suffolk (5 miles from Stowmarket) We aim to co-ordinate lifts.

Moving photos on the right from a Volunteer project. A BIG thank-you to all who came and helped - split and nail hazel wattle to the roof battens, put tiles back on the East lean-to roof (they had been off for a while), mixed and applied daub (cob by another name), and made an Oak plank gutter - to begin the rainwater harvesting!
