Learn how to build with Cob
5 Day Full Cob Course 22 - 26 June 2009Develop practical skills whilst you help to build a small, round Apple Store. We anticipate that it will look similar to this Retreat Room that our tutor Kate Edwards built with students near Diss in early 2008.
The course will teach you:
- About siting and design of your cob structure, including planning applications, building regulation control and passive solar design
- All aspects of cob building from the foundations to the roof
There will be a full, detailed demonstration and examination of how to source your raw materials for building cob i.e. clay, sand and straw. Your tutor, Kate Edwards will give you a comprehensive overview of the various methods of mixing and preparing cob, including specific mixes for different building techniques. She will also give you a brief history of cob and various other forms of earth building around the world.
Location: This course will take place in the traditional orchard at Orchard Barn, Far Ringshall, 5 miles from Stowmarket in Mid Suffolk.

Lunches: A hearty lunch will be provided. If you have any special dietary needs please specify them on the booking form.
Be prepared to have your eyes opened to a new way of thinking, have an amazing time and become addicted to cob! We guarantee you will love building using natural materials.
Places are limited to 10 . This 5 day cob course costs £400 including lunches. Participants will need to arrange their own accommodation. Basic camping is available in the orchard, or ask for a B+B list.
