An Introduction to Green Woodworking (1)



Learn the basics of green woodworking at Orchard Barn.  On this 2-day course you will learn how to use equipment such as a shave horse and traditional hand tools - auger, side-axe, draw knife and plane.

Come and be inspired by what's possible using locally sourced green wood.

Day 1

Objective: Make a 3-legged chopping block

Activities:

  • Use of a man and a half / 2 person saw
  • Cleaving with wedges and beetle
  • Cleaving with froe and cleaving brake
  • Shaping wood with a side axe, drawknife and shave horse
  • Using an auger

Day 2

Objective: Make something with a wedged handle

Activities: As day 1 but with use of scrub plane and debarker
