NEW An introduction to using lime on 7th June with Rory Sumerling

We can offer you courses in traditional Timber Framing. Start with An Introduction to Timber Framing which could be followed by 2 days of Taking Timber Framing Further.

Alternatively book yourself onto our 2 day course on how to repair a traditional Timber Frame. This course gives you hands-on experience of repairing timbers that are 450 years old! If you own your own timber frame, this course will help you undertake basic repairs, or instruct your builder.

Then there's the 5-day Restoration Skills  course which covers the use of Lime and Earth in heritage buildings. Explore why old buildings get damp and how to remedy/prevent damp. We also look at Timber Frame repairs and the use of Greenwood in heritage repairs. Essential information and skills for all heritage home-owners.

The use of Wattle and Daub continues to make a come-back. We can teach you how to source your own clay and coppiced wattle sticks, and construct environmentally sound walls from totally natural materials.

Step into our award winning off-grid teaching centre and rediscover the historic pace of life - hand tools and traditional techniques are perfectly  at home in our renovated 17th century timber frame barn set within an ancient orchard. You will be surrounded by inspirational examples of how historic building methods have been utilised to full effect in our teaching centre.

Bespoke training organised and delivered at Orchard Barn and further afield. Please ask.
